Commercial operation

“After a late-season Hive Health treatment, our colonies looked as strong as the best-performing groups by January. Others weren’t even close. It gives me real optimism—not just for mites, but for the viruses that are really driving colony decline.”

“We integrated Hive Health into our normal workflow with no added labor. By mid-season, 90% of our samples were at zero mites, with no disruption to honey flow, queen performance, or colony behavior.”

Hive Health FAQ

Answers for beekeepers building stronger colonies

Built to support colony resilience through spring buildup, honey flow, and fall preparation. Designed to fit real beekeeping workflows.

Colony health

What is ApiVera Hive Health?

ApiVera Hive Health Nutrients is an amino acid-stabilized oxidant formulation designed to support overall colony health. It helps bees stay strong against parasites and pathogens while supporting brood development, queen health, and seasonal performance.

Season-long use

When should I use Hive Health?

Hive Health is designed for use across the full beekeeping season, from spring buildup to honey flow to fall preparation. It is built to fit real beekeeping workflows and help keep colonies strong through changing seasonal pressures.

Honey Supers

Can I use Hive Health during honey flow?

Yes. Hive Health can be applied during honey flow, giving beekeepers a practical tool for supporting colony health during one of the most important periods of the season.

4P's approach

What does Hive Health help with?

Hive Health supports the broader 4P's of colony health: parasites, pathogens, poor nutrition, and pesticide stress. It is designed to do more than target a single issue by helping colonies stay resilient and productive.

Why it's different

How is Hive Health different from traditional mite treatments?

Traditional treatments often focus narrowly on mites and may be limited by timing, resistance, or residue concerns. Hive Health takes a broader approach by supporting colony resilience, working in harmony with natural oxidants, and fitting into more of the beekeeping season.

Safety

Is Hive Health safe for queens and brood?

Yes. Hive Health is designed to be safe for queens, larvae, and developing brood when used as directed. In work conducted by Dr. Jeff Pettis, colonies were treated directly on open brood and adult bees with no observed mortality under proper application conditions. The study supports ApiVera's broader goal of protecting the most sensitive parts of the hive while supporting colony health.

Application

How do I apply Hive Health?

Hive Health is most commonly applied using fogging systems for fast, even coverage across bees and hive surfaces. Our High Efficiency Hive Fogger is designed for larger commercial operations, while the Portable On-Hive Fogger is ideal for smaller or more distributed yards. That said, every beekeeping operation is different. Beekeepers have also successfully applied Hive Health using manual sprayers and battery-powered backpack sprayers depending on their workflow, yard layout, and treatment goals. The key is achieving consistent coverage in a way that fits your operation. View the Application Guide for recommended methods, equipment setups, and best practices.

Program planning

How often should I apply it?

Typical programs include applications in early season, during honey flow, and in the fall. Exact frequency depends on your region, colony configuration, and operational goals.

System approach

How does Hive Health fit with Hive Wash?

Hive Health and Hive Wash serve different roles in a complete colony health system. Hive Wash is used to restore deadouts and used equipment before reuse. Hive Health is used with live colonies throughout the season to support stronger, healthier hives.
